When I was fifteen or sixteen, my mother worked for a large company which produced steel. She was an office worker and there was always a lot to do in such a big company. Sometimes she even had to work overtime. But she never complained. She earned a good salary and our family never had problems making ends meet. The management board of this company often gave Christmas or Easter presents for their employees. Once my mother got a present for Women"s Day. My jaw nearly dropped when I saw it. It was a gold bullion bar. She was holding it in her hand as if it was a kind of treasure. It was not very big, not bigger than ten per five centimetres, but it looked really cool. She told me the management board gave all women in the company such a present as a way of expressing their gratitude for their work. She said she was going to keep the gold bullion bar and some day maybe sell it or have it melted down to make some jewellery items. I was really impressed I wanted to touch the bullion bar but my mother suddenly started laughing. She couldn"t help it, she hid the bar behind her back and said she couldn"t give it to me. Then she wasn"t able to hide it anymore. She showed to me. She unpacked it and broke it into two pieces. It was just a bar of chocolate in a golden wrapper!
